LSE Kazakh Society

“In the wake of dawn, amidst the rising smoke of the glorious Borough of Holborn, a weary warrior struggles forward through the doom and gloom of the cold reality around him. Utter misery is written on faces of his fellow battle-men who surround him on his quest. They hold in their arms a potion of the liquid of live steaming with magical wreaths of mist. Patiently await they for the hour of ultimate revelation.

This hour (or for some unlucky ones – hours) of ultimate revelation will not be passed in the bloody battlefield as you might have thought at first sight. These wonderful ‘warriors’ are sleepy LSE Kazakh students, desperately clinging to their cups of ‘magic potion’ (a.k.a. coffee), most probably headed towards the New Theatre for their regular Monday 9 o’clock lecture in something not so glorious (accounting, if you ask me), but nevertheless obligatory for the poor buggers.

But if you ask us, the LSE Kazakhstan Society, it’s not all doom and gloom. We are here to entertain and make student life a bit more fun.”

The LSE Student Union Kazakhstan Society aims to raise awareness of Kazakhstan in the UK. In 2002-2003 the Society had some 160 members and became the winner of the Best New Society Award. It is from the LSE, that the UK-wide Kazakhstan Student Society traces its roots, as we were the first official Kazakh Society in Great Britain. Past events include concerts by renowned Kazakh musicians; food fair; film shows and parties at London's trendiest nightclubs. All of the activities were free or heavily subsidized!
