Short Courses

SHORT COURSES / SUMMER SCHOOL By Bekzhan

There are many language schools offering special short English courses for international students during summer in UK, sometimes combined with sightseeing, sports or other activities.

Many universities and colleges offer daytime "summer schools" in a wide range of subjects during the British summer holidays in July and August. These courses are usually open to international students. Your level of English needs to be high enough to be able to understand the lectures and to take part in discussions. Most courses usually last for between 1 and 4 weeks. For examples of international summer school programmes in the UK, see:

The one special summer school many of us (Kazakhs) have attended is situated in Oxford, called St.Clare's College. The atmosphere in there is absolutely fantastic, as you get to meet hundreds of people from different parts of the world. I am, personally, still in touch with many of them, and reminisce of those fun days at St.Clare's College in Oxford. Information about it can be found on www.stclares.ac.uk.
